Built On Light:

The Delano in Song & Story

Where: The Delano Miami Beach
When: January 2027 (date TBD)

IlluminArts presents a special concert at the Delano Miami Beach in January 2027, celebrating the hotel’s grand reopening and its enduring place in Miami’s cultural and architectural history. At the heart of the program is the world premiere of a new work commissioned by the Delano from IlluminArts Executive Artistic Director Shawn Crouch. Written for soprano, string quartet, piano, and narration, the piece draws inspiration from the Delano’s iconic Art Deco and Miami Modern architecture, its 1947 opening, and the spirit of postwar Miami Beach, weaving music and spoken text into an evocative portrait of the hotel’s past, present, and renewed future. The premiere will be presented alongside works by Florence Price, Harry T. Burleigh, and Marc Blitzstein, connecting Crouch’s contemporary vision with the sounds and stories of the era in which the Delano was built. Internationally acclaimed soprano Michele Kennedy will be joined by longtime IlluminArts collaborator, pianist Anna Fateeva, for an intimate, site-responsive evening honoring the Delano’s remarkable legacy and celebrating the beginning of an exciting new chapter.

The Wanderer

Where: Viscaya Museum & Gardens
When: February 17, 2027 | 7:00 PM

IlluminArts presents a site-specific performance of Arnold Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire (Moonstruck Pierrot) and Luciano Berio’s Folk Songs at Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, timed to coincide with the full moon over Biscayne Bay. Set within Vizcaya’s historic interiors and gardens, this immersive production draws on the works’ vivid imagery through lighting, movement, and chamber music. Mezzo-soprano Amanda Crider, founding director of IlluminArts, performs alongside the IlluminArts Players, an all-star chamber ensemble. The program journeys through the dreamlike landscapes of obsession, melancholy, and mystery in Schoenberg’s 21-movement song cycle, performed in the expressive Sprechstimme style, and Berio’s Folk Songs, an imaginative collection of eleven songs drawn from musical traditions spanning Europe and the Americas. Originally composed for the celebrated mezzo-soprano Cathy Berberian, Berio’s colorful arrangements transform these intimate songs of love, longing, work, and celebration through inventive instrumentation and a distinctly modern musical language.
