Hued Songs, IlluminArts and Vizcaya are thrilled to present a three-part series of performances amplifying the historic contributions of three influential women. Dr. Dorothy Jenkins Fields, Chief Sandrell Rivers, and Betty Mae Tiger Jumper’s work has impacted and transformed Miami and South Florida, creating change for their own, and future, generations. These three musical performances will illuminate the intersections among the women’s lives as well as their inspirational achievements and contributions. The three performances, taking place in the Courtyard in Vizcaya's Main House, weave together song and original text by writer Christell Roach and will feature sopranos Brittany Graham and The Jas Sound, and mezzo-soprano Elise Quagliata.


This is a series of three musical performances. Each concert will focus on a different influential woman. 


March 22 - Dr. Dorothy Jenkins Fields, Founder of The Black Archives (narrated by Rosie Gordon Wallace)

March 29 - Betty Mae Tiger Jumper, the first Chairman of the Seminole Tribe of Florida (narrated by Natalia Martinez-Kalinina)

April 5 - Chief Sandrell Rivers, a Miami arts advocate (narrated by Miriam King)

Brittany Graham

Lyric soprano Brittany Graham is the St. Louis District Winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. After completing her Master of Music in Vocal Performance at Webster University, Ms. Graham received contracts with both Opera Theatre of Saint Louis and Union Avenue Opera. At Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, she performed the roles of Belle in Marc Blitzstein’s Regina, featuring mezzo-soprano Susan Graham, and Spc. Toussant in the world premiere of An American Soldier by Huang Ruo and David Henry Hwang. Ms. Graham was later a featured soloist in Kurt Weill’s Lost in the Stars at Union Avenue Opera. She was seen in Opera Theatre of Saint Louis’ world premiere of Terence Blanchard and Kasi Lemmons’ Fire Shut Up in My Bones, based on New York Times columnist Charles Blow’s memoir. She appeared as a soloist in the South Florida Symphony’s production of Porgy and Bess. In addition, she has appeared as Alice in Falstaff, Dejanice in Catalani’s Dejanice, Anna Bolena in Anna Bolena, Hanna Glawari in The Merry Widow, Musetta in La bohème, Agathe in Der Freischütz, and the Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors. Brittany has performed extensively in the St. Louis region, where she was featured as a Young Artist with the St. Louis Symphony’s InUnison Chorus. She has had the privilege of coaching and appearing in concert with soprano Christine Brewer. Ms. Graham was featured in Sarasota Opera as an Apprentice Artist and was also seen in the #SongStrong concert series for Opera Fusion. Brittany has performed the roles of Gertrud and The Witch in Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel at Magic City Opera. Ms. Graham was seen as the soprano soloist for Handel’s Messiah and the Italian Excellence Concert with the South Florida Symphony Orchestra in the Winter of 2021. Ms. Graham was a featured guest soloist in Coral Ridge Concert Series American Songbook: Big Band Concert in the Spring of 2022 as well as the featured soloist in the Femmes Noires en Classique Fall Concert tour in 2022. Ms. Graham concluded 2022 as the soloist in Dr. Andrea Ramsey’s Suffrage Cantata, and once again the soprano soloist for the South Florida Symphony Orchestra’s production of Handel’s Messiah. Ms. Graham begins 2023 season once again as The Witch (Humperdinck) with Young Patronesses of the Opera.

The Jas Sound

The Jas Sound, also known as Jasmine Williams, is a Florida native was born with a love for music. From the age of six music became a passion for The Jas Sound and she began performing at weddings, special events and competitions. As time progressed The Jas Sound desired to grow in music and education which led her to pursue a Vocal Performance music degree at Palm Beach Atlantic University. While in college The Jas Sound became a trained opera singer and after graduating The Jas Sound participated in multiple opera’s including South Florida Symphony's Porgy and Bess. Although Opera launched a successful platform for The Jas Sound, she desired to create a genre that would showcase her musical background in Gospel, Opera, Jazz, and Contemporary music. In 2018, The Jas Sound released her first single, The Voice Words which was the debut of her Sound to the world. The Jas Sound relishes in performing at special events due to the intimate setting and was afforded the opportunity to perform at A Bridal Brunch hosted by the well-known BellaNaija Weddings & Chioma of Dureevents in 2018 and with Palm Beach Opera for their 2021 Festival performance of La bohème, among other wonderful events. The Jas Sound believes in capturing the moment for her clients and will continue to work towards building her brand in efforts to establish her sound as well as fostering an environment for other artists to find their sound. In every performance The Jas Sound aspires to provide each individual with an experience of a lifetime while sharing her unique sound, The Jas Sound.


Elise Quagliata

Elise Quagliata

Mezzo-soprano

Mezzo-soprano Elise Quagliata recently sang the role of Pellegrina/Older Doll to great acclaim in Minnesota Opera’s world premiere of Campbell and Prestini’s Edward Tulane. Earlier in the season as Ginny in Des Moines Metro Opera’s world premiere of Campbell and Kuster’s A Thousand Acres, Quagliata was commended for her “phrases of full-bodied firepower, lighthearted banter, and introspective utterances with equal vocal expertise.”


In the 2021/2022 season, Quagliata also sang the role of Minskwoman in Dove’s Flight with Utah Opera, Sister Helen in Heggie’s Dead Man Walking with Opera Idaho, and the title role in Carmen with Pensacola Opera. In recent seasons she sang Elle in Poulenc’s La Voix Humaine with Des Moines Metro Opera, Carmen with Kentucky Opera and with the Chattanooga Opera, Hannah After in As One with Pensacola Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera and Bay Chamber Concert, Emilia in

Verdi’s Otello with Austin Opera, and as Zosia in the premiere of Jake Heggie’s Out of Darkness: Two Remain with The Atlanta Opera.  


A frequent interpreter of contemporary, American music, Quagliata has sung the role of Sister Helen Prejean in Jake Heggie’s Dead Man Walking in seven productions. Opera News cited her “passionate interpretation” and “exceptional technical finesse”. She was also praised by The New York Times for her “rich, expressive voice and passionate delivery” of Heggie’s song cycle on Sister Helen’s poetry, The Deepest Desire, performed in Los Angeles and New York with the composer at the piano. She originated the role of Joan Clarke in Justine Chen’s The Life and Death(s) of Alan Turing with Chicago Opera Theater and sang the New York premiere of Wallace’s Hopper’s Wife as Hedda Hopper with New York City Opera.  


A celebrated Carmen, Quagliata has been praised for her “fierce charisma with vocal finesse.” She has sung many productions, as well as the New York City Opera world tour of Carmen in North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Other notable opera roles include Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd, Maria in Maria de Buenos Aires, Jo in Little Women, Olga in Eugene Onegin, and Suzuki in Madama Butterfly, to name a few.  


Quagliata’s solo orchestral credits include Prokofiev’s cantata Alexander Nevsky, Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius, Mahler’s Rückert Lieder, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Verdi’s Requiem, Brahms’ Alto Rhapsody, Montsalvatge’s Cinco Canciones Negras, DeFalla’s El Amor Brujo, and DeFalla’s Sombrero Tres Picos.

Eden is a South Florida Native classically trained pianist. He has enjoyed a varied career thus far. He regularly works with Miami's orchestras such as MISO and Miami Orchestra. He also is a music director, working regularly with Slowburn Theatre and The Wick Theatre. His most recent credit is Little Shop of Horrors. He has worked with notable people such as Samantha Pauly, Derek Klena, Christy Altomare and Jorge Luis Prats. He holds a Bachelors in Music from New World School of the Arts.
