March 10, 2012

As we strive to reach our goal of creating a more vibrant arts community in Stark County, we hope to build networks of artists. We have created one network through our mentoring program. By matching students from local high schools with adult artists residing in Stark County, we create a mentoring relationship. Some of the work from these relationships will be on display at Celebration 2011 on March 19th at Timken High School, downtown Canton.

IlluminArts Mentoring Program

IlluminArts is a nonprofit, charitable organization that promotes the arts, and enhances the identity of Stark County and surrounding areas as a vibrant, visionary and arts-oriented region. We believe that bringing artists, arts organizations, and community members together to network is critical to building a united and diverse arts community. Expanding community awareness about the relationships between arts and learning will increase the ways arts are used to educate our youth.

As part of our effort to promote the arts throughout the area, IlluminArts has established a mentoring program. Details of the program are outlined in the IlluminArts Mentoring Program Agreement.  This year, ArtsinStark is providing five artists who will be conducting a two hour workshop.  Applications, to be considered for a workshop, are included in the student application document.

Here's how the mentoring program works:

  • The student and the artist will meet a minimum of four times before the Festival Finale on March 19. The artist will contact the student to make arrangements for these meetings.

  • The artist and student will attend the Finale to display their work and explain it to members of the community.

If you are interested in a workshop or working with a local artist and showcasing your work, at Celebration 2011 which will take place at Timken High School on Saturday, March 19, 2011, please email Rod Meadows, Architect and IlluminArts Mentor Chairman, at rmeadows@mottermeadows.com no later than December 10, 2010.
